Mohamaya Lake, one of Bangladesh’s artificial lakes, is located in Mirsarai, Chittagong. Just two kilometers away from Thakurdighi Bazaar in the Durgapur Union of Mirsarai, the lake has been developed on 11 square kilometers of land on the slopes of a hill. In addition to the lake’s clear water and the surrounding mountains’ beauty, there are also mountain caves, rubber dams, and beautiful waterfalls.
Besides taking a boat ride around the lake, you can give your body and mind unearthly peace by soaking in the cool water of the waterfalls descending from the mountains. The Mohamaya Lake has facilities for kayaking, and you can camp in tents at night if you wish. Some of Mohamaya Lake’s water, which is managed by the Bangladesh Water Development Board, is used for irrigation in the surrounding areas.

You can take buses, CNGs, auto-rickshaws, or microbuses to Mirsarai from the Madarbari and Kadamtali bus stops. You can also take a “Choice bus” directly from Madarbari in Chittagong City to Thakurdighi Bazaar for 80 taka. Alternatively, from the Alankar City Gate in Chittagong, you can take local buses to the Thakurdighi police station in Mirsarai for 40 to 60 taka. From there, you can take a CNG to the main gate of Mohamaya Ecopark for 15-20 taka per person. Alternatively, you can reserve a CNG for 80-120 taka and go directly to Mohamaya Eco Park. Mohamaya Lake is located inside the park.
It costs 10 taka per person to enter Mahamaya Eco Park. You can also go kayaking on the lake. Two people can fit in one kayak. The kayaking fee is 300 taka per hour and 200 taka for 30 minutes. Students receive a discount and pay 200 taka for one hour and 150 taka for 30 minutes.

You can go kayaking anytime from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. There are also engine boats that can take you around the lake. Boats that can hold 8-10 people are available for an hour and will take you to see the surrounding waterfalls. The rental fee is 800–1,000 taka. Renting an engine boat that can hold 15 to 20 people costs 1,200 to 1,500 taka for an hour.
There are no food facilities in the park. You must bring your food. There is a small hotel in Thakurdighi Bazaar where you can eat local food. If you go to Mirsarai or Sitakunda Bazaar, you will find other reasonably priced hotels where you can eat.
How to get to Mohamaya Lake
Mohamaya Lake is located two kilometers east of Thakurdighi Bazaar in Mirsarai. No matter where you are in the country, you must first come to Thakurdighi Bazar in the Mirsarai Upazila of the Chittagong District.
Dhaka to Mohamaya Lake
By bus
You can take a bus from anywhere in Dhaka to Thakurdighi Bazaar in Mirsarai, and then continue to Chittagong. Non-AC buses from companies such as S Alam, Shyamoli, Saudia, Unique, Hanif, Eagle, and Ena cost between 450 and 500 taka. Air-conditioned buses, such as Greenline, Saudia, Sohag, and TR, cost 1,000–1,200 taka. Take the bus of your choice and get off at Thakurdighi Bazaar before Mirsarai. Alternatively, you can take the Star Line Paribahan bus from the Sayedabad bus stand to Feni for 320 taka and then take a local bus to Thakurdighi Bazaar for 30–50 taka.
From there, you can take a CNG to the main gate of Mohamaya Ecopark for 20 taka per person. Alternatively, you can take a CNG to Mahamaya Ecopark for 80-150 taka. Mahamaya Lake is located inside the park.
By train
From Dhaka, take any intercity train bound for Chittagong and get off at Feni Station. The fare is between 250 and 1,035 taka per person, depending on the class. From the station, take a rickshaw or auto for 10-15 taka to the Feni Mahipal bus stand. From there, take a local bus to Thakurdighi Bazar, before Mirsarai, for 30-40 taka. Alternatively, you can get off at the “Chinki Astana” station on the mail train for 90-120 taka.
From there, you can take an auto, leguna, or CNG to Thakurdighi for 20-25 taka. From there, you can take a CNG to the main gate of Mahamaya Ecopark for 15-20 taka per person. Alternatively, you can reserve a CNG for 80-120 taka and go directly to Mohamaya Ecopark. Mahamaya Lake is located inside the park.
Chittagong to Mohamaya Lake
From the Madarbari and Kadamtali bus stops, you can take buses, CNGs, autorickshaws, or microbuses to Mirsarai. You can also take a “Choice” bus directly from Madarbari in Chittagong City to Thakurdighi Bazaar for 80 taka. From Alankar City Gate, you can also take local buses to Thakurdighi in Mirsarai for 40 to 60 taka. From there, you can take a CNG to the main gate of Mahamaya Ecopark for 15-20 taka per person. Alternatively, you can reserve a CNG for 80-150 taka and come to Mohamaya Ecopark. Mohamaya Lake is located inside the park.
From Sylhet
You can travel from Sylhet by bus or train. Get on any bus going to Chittagong and get off at Thakurdighi Bazaar, before Mirsarai. If you are taking the train, get off at the Feni station on the intercity Paharika Express, Udayan Express, or Jalalabad Express mail trains. From the station, take a rickshaw or auto for 20-25 taka to the Feni Mahipal bus stand.
Then, take a local bus to Thakurdighi Bazar, which costs 30-50 taka. Alternatively, if you take the mail train, which costs 100-150 taka, you can get off at the “Chinki Astana” station. From there, you can take an auto, Laguna, or CNG for 20-25 taka per person to Thakurdighi. From there, you can take a rickshaw to the main gate of Mahamaya Eco Park for 15-20 taka per person. Alternatively, you can take a CNG for 100-120 taka to Mahamaya Eco Park. Mahamaya Lake is located inside the park.
Feni to Mahamaya Lake
If you come by intercity train from Dhaka, you will get off at Feni Railway Station, then from the station, take an easy bike to Mahipal Bus Stand, then any bus bound for Chittagong will take you to Thakurdighi Bazar. The fare is 30/40 taka, from the market to Sinji, the fare is 15 taka per person, which is the main gate of Mahamaya Ecopark.
Mohamaya Lake Ticket Price
Ticket price: A fee of 30 taka per person is required to enter Mahamaya Eco Park. To enter Mohamaya Lake, you will have to pay a ticket of 10 taka.

Where to stay?
There are no good hotels for long-term stays in Mirsarai. If you want to stay nearby, there are some average-quality hotels in Sitakunda. You can stay there. Rooms at Hotel Saudia range from 600 to 1,600 taka, while rooms at Simon and other residential hotels range from 300 to 700 taka. Call 01991-787979 or 01816-518119 to book a room at Hotel Saudia.
However, if you want a better place to stay, it is better to go to Chittagong City. It takes about an hour and a half to get to Chittagong from Mirsarai. You will find reasonably priced hotels at the Anglokar intersection. There are also hotels of different quality in the Station Road area of New Market in Chittagong, where you can stay overnight.
